History of Latinos in America
The history of Latinos in America extends as far back as the 16th century when the first explorers voyaged to the Americas in search of riches and new trade routes. Those explorers included the Spanish, who were the first Europeans to arrive in the Americas. Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, many Spanish expeditions arrived in the Americas. They explored the land and discovered new civilizations, including the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas. Spanish explorers also established settlements in what is now the southern U.S. The Spanish were responsible for bringing many aspects of their culture to the Americas. Over time, people from other countries also migrated to the U.S. in search of opportunity. In the 19th and 20th centuries, immigrants from Italy, Ireland, and Germany, among others, came to the U.S.
